HEART FOR A CAUSE
Introduction: A single service experience led by students wherein we visit public schools to introduce art to them at the same time raise their awareness of certain issues of modern society.

L.O.'s:
-
LO5 - We all worked collaboratively and contributed to ideas on what art activities we would do with the kids when we visit them. We listened to each person's ideas to get a variety of ideas and pick the most simple yet creative one.
-
LO6 - We recognized that education was a major issue in the Philippines today. Because we wanted to show the students more of the artistic side of education, we decided that we would teach them modern society issues instead through art. Being in the school and seeing the children happy drawing and learning through art made us aware that many kids in school missed learning important morals, such as the proper way we should treat one another.
-
LO7 - We had to recognize the issue of language barriers as some of us aren't necessarily fluent in Filipino. We also had to be aware of what we need to know in order to make an ethical decision when we are in the school and interacting with the people there as their culture may be different to ours and we would need to acknowledge and reflect on the different cultural/ethical beliefs.

During today's “He(art) for a cause”, we taught the girls about what bullying is and why it is wrong. We then gave each of them a square cloth and sharpies and let them create their own artwork that supports anti-bullying. We punched holes on each of the cloths’ corners and connected all our square cloths together using string to make something that looks like a quilt to hang up on their wall. These kids showed us that even as simple as drawing a picture would make them happy as they do not have such stationery provided in their school.
