Paper Architecture

Introduction: This activity happens once a week wherein we get to choose a design we would like to do, get them printed and then get them cut out. We used x-acto knives and rubber boards when cutting the cards out with a teacher to supervise us.

L.O.'s:

  • LO2 - I've never done paper cutting before and decided I wanted to try it out since it looked very interesting. It was more difficult than expected however the end products were always satisfying results. As I've made more and more, I challenged myself to make more difficult cuttings to develop the skills of cutting very precisely. Furthermore, I had to ensure that what I was doing was safe since knives used were very sharp.

In Paper Architecture club today, the teacher was able to prepare a printed template on a card paper for me to do today. She reminded everyone about our safety as knives for cutting is dangerous if not careful. After, I carefully read the instructions of which lines are needed to cut and which lines were for folding. In the end, I wasn’t able to fully finish what I was making and so I’m looking forward to the next session so that I can complete it.

I was finally able to complete my first work in paper architecture today, and it is a bridge. I would say that folding would probably be more difficult than cutting just because the lines are confusing and it’s not easy to make fold on certain really small areas. After completing it, I looked through the book to find a new design to create for next week. I’m really looking forward to the next architecture piece I’ll be making.

Paper architecture today was very organized because I was able to prepare beforehand. Once I got in the class, I was able to immediately start cutting my card paper with the printed outline. Because of this, I was able to efficiently and productively use my time to make the most I can out of it. Out of interest, I also did my own paper architecture at home by printing a template on a piece of scrap paper and experimenting of what I can do and exploring the skills needed for all this.

Today’s session was relaxing; I did a simple paper piece in the room and it was nice and quiet. I was able to finish cutting my template and only the folding part was left to do. I’m looking forward to finishing this up in the next session.

I was able to finish folding my staircase-like piece today in paper architecture. I stuck it on black construction paper to make it look much cooler, as if it has a shadow. After finishing it, I looked through the book to find a new pattern template to do next week. As a challenge, I chose one that has needs a lot of cutting of thin lines because I thought it would look cool; I’m looking forward to seeing how this will turn out.

My teacher printed out a new paper architecture design I requested last week and I was able to finish cutting all the dotted lines in the paper template. All I’ll have to do for next lesson is to fold and glue the card.
