Junior Entrepreneur

Introduction: Junior enterprise is a small group of students who want to simultaneously experience what it's like in the business world and be able to support women who are in need of jobs. Our aim is to be able to sell fashionable yet comfortable clothes at the same time provide jobs for women to make these shirts.

L.O.'s:

  • LO2 - A challenge has been undertaken as we had to invest our own money first for the first productions of shirts and ensure that when we sell them, we would make enough profit to reach the breakeven quickly. This is being involved with unfamiliar situations as I've never taken part of a business before that included us investing our own money first and ensuring that we would make revenue from this.

  • LO3 - We launched the idea of selling simple plain T-shirts as a group and had to suggest creative ideas on shirt designs and how to sell them to make sure people would want to buy them. We had to prepare the designs and shirts, act on it by selling them during school events, and reflect on how we sold our shirts at the end of the day.

  • LO4 - We had to actively engage with our project as we wanted to keep on being able to provide jobs for women. We had to adapt to uncertainties and changes when the number of shirts were not produced right and when events we were going to sell at got cancelled.

  • LO5 - Skills and knowledge had to be shared amongst us as we needed as much ideas on how we could most efficiently make profit. We al  had to agree and contribute on what times people would stand in the stalls during events as well. As 2-3 people had to stand in the stall at a time, I was able to see the benefits of working collaboratively as one would be the cashier whilst one talking to customers about the shirt and the other walking around to promote our stall.

  • LO6 - Being a part of this allowed me to see the importance of helping women maintain their jobs, which is a major issue in the community. This made me want to contribute our selling even more to ensure people would keep on purchasing shirts from us.

First session of junior entrepreneur was interesting as we brainstormed ideas for a product that may possibly create profit for our group. We at first had 8 different types of ideas, and then we scratched of a few through voting until we had a final 4: custom merchandise, question bank revision app, lollipop pens and a tutor tracker app. We also looked at the roles of junior entrepreneur today, such as the company secretary, head of marketing, finance, etc. Next week, we will be official announcing who gets which role.

Today, we decided the official company name being “Mood” as we finalized our products being statement merchandises. Furthermore, we discussed production and costs for these merchandises, and we have some team members that have relations to real companies who could be able to produce clothing with our requested statements. Next session, we will be planning on what kind of statements will be on what kind of clothing and to official discuss when we will start self-produce and sell our products.

In junior enterprise today, we discussed about shirt designs and logos. However, we weren’t able to view all the designs made by our designer, therefore, we do not have a final decision yet about which ones we are going to print on shirts, and will be doing this for our next session instead.

We talked about new designs again for Mood Apparel. The president also announced that the #Kanye2020 was the bestseller shirt design and sold out the fastest. We discussed that our new designs should have front and back designs, so that it’s a little more ‘different’ than to the ones we’ve sold so far.

During MOOD Apparel today, we discussed about having a video shoot during the half term break to promote our own products. We plan to shoot it in either BGC with some students to be in the video or to do a backdrop instead with a green screen. However, I will not be part of the video as I am not in the video team.
