BLUES BAND

Introduction: I've decided to join the blues band this year to develop my knowledge and improve my skills of guitar. Furthermore, I hope to participate in small concerts and performances to boost my confidence in the future, and I believe that the blues band is just the thing to influence and encourage me to become a better musician and performer.

L.O.'s:

  • LO2 - This is an experience that required personal challenge as we had to perform pieces in front of the group, either individually or paired up, which is an unfamiliar environment as I am very used to a one-to-one session with my private guitar teacher. However, due to this, I've acquired more confidence when playing in front of a small group and pushed me further to improve on my guitar skills as I had to practice extra pieces in my own spare time.

  • LO4 - Although I already have private guitar session at home, to show more commitment to guitar, I decided to join the blues band. This then made me have to practice even more as each week I would have 2 tasks to practice. I attended every session in the first term to show perseverance in improving (however unfortunately, blues band discontinued after this term).

First session of blues club today, and there were several of us in the class (around 10+ students). We learned how to play the power chords of E, A, and G. Together, we were all able to play a song by being split into 3 groups and assigned on either E, A, or G chord to play. At the end of the lesson, the teacher told us to practice these three chords and to be able to play them together for next lesson. LO2

We were able to create our own riffs today in blues band by using only 3 notes, E, G and A on the E string. I thought that this was really fun as we were able to use our creativity skills in making the beat and notes. We were split into having partners and were given a few minutes to come up with a melody; my partner and I enjoyed collaborating and combining ideas together. In the end, we decided to do ours in harmony. All of us performed to the others at the end of the lesson and it was very cool to hear different people come up with different songs. LO2, LO4

We had a cover teacher for Blues club today and the teacher split us up to three different groups and gave us all different guitar tabs to play. Towards the end of the session, we were all able to play our assigned sections and harmonize together. LO2, LO4

We learnt the chords of E and A, and were able to play a song that was composed of those two pieces. The teacher also taught us different ways of playing the song, such as strumming and plucking. At the end of the lesson, we were able to all strum the chords while the song played along. LO2
